Critical Fire Safety Tool

Fire extinguishers are critical tools that can prevent a small fire getting out of hand and causing devastating consequences. They are often thought to be a first line of defence, allowing individuals to respond quickly to fire emergencies.

For businesses, fire extinguishers are not just a safety precaution, they are a legal obligation. Compliance with fire safety regulations is vital to protect your employees, clients, and assets.

At Brookside Fire Service, our training is designed to equip businesses with the right knowledge, understanding and skills to meet the legal standards with confidence and act swiftly in a fire.

Type of Fire Extinguishers & Their Applications

It is important to ensure that you understand the different types of fire extinguishers and which type of fire they can be used to tackle.

Water Extinguishers (Class A)

  • Ideal for fires involving combustibles such as wood or paper. They are designed to cool down the fire by reducing its heat.

CO2 Extinguishers (Class B & C)

  • Most effective against flammable liquids (Class B) and electrical fires (Class C). They are designed to displace the oxygen, essentially smothering the fire.

Dry Chemical Extinguishers (Class A, B & C)

  • These are the most versatile and widely used fire extinguishers. They interrupt the chemical reactions of a fire, making it suitable for a wider range of fire types.

Foam Extinguishers (Class A & B)

  • The foam creates a barrier to suppress vapours and prevent the fire getting oxygen. They are therefore suitable for solids (Class B) or flammable liquid based (Class A) fires.
